Stoke sign US international Cameron

8 August 2012 18:32

US international Geoff Cameron has completed his long-awaited move to Stoke City after being granted a work permit.

Cameron was given the green light to begin his Premier League career after a successful appeals hearing led by Stoke manager Tony Pulis and chief executive Tony Scholes at Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Wednesday.

Having been selected to take part in Stoke's preseason camp in the US, Cameron was then unable to feature in either training or matches due to the work permit issue.

But Pulis finally secured his second signing ahead of the 2012/13 season after previously adding former Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness to the club's ranks.

"He's got a great presence, good legs and he's a passer of the ball. He will be a great addition," Pulis said.

Cameron, who has five international caps for the US national team since debuting against El Salvador in 2010, is delighted to realise a childhood dream.

"It's surreal because it's been a dream of mine since I was a little kid," Cameron told MLSsoccer.com.

"I think I ended my career with the (Houston) Dynamo with a pretty good game.

"I thought that was one of my best games of the season against D.C. United (July 15) and now I want to go abroad and try the UK and get that experience and test my ability."

The 27-year-old utility is aware of the differences between the MLS and the Premier League but he believes there are similarities, which will help smooth the transition.

"I think overall, Dynamo and Stoke are very similar in their work ethic and running hard and being physical and being hard workers overall," Cameron said.

"Obviously there's going to be an adjustment period to guys and speed.

"It could be similar to the national team level so I think it's going to be a little bit to adjust and get acclimated to the team and level of play.

"But I think my attitude and the way the Dynamo play is very similar to the way Stoke plays and because of that I think I'll fit in."
