Benaglio extends Wolfsburg stay

Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio has signed a new deal with the Bundesliga club, extending his stay until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Benaglio's previous contract was due to expire in June 2013, and a number of clubs were closely monitoring the situation of the Switzerland international.

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old will not leave the club anytime soon after inking a four-year extension, much to the delight of head coach Felix Magath.

"Diego Benaglio has performed impressively here in recent years and played a major role in the German championship win," Magath said.

"We are absolutely delighted that he is going to be a part of our sporting development in the coming years."

Benaglio joined Wolfsburg from Nacional and has since made over 100 appearances in the German top flight.
