Garcia hails his rampant Getafe

17 April 2012 05:38

Getafe coach Luis Garcia was surprised and delighted with his team's 5-1 thrashing of Sevilla in La Liga.

Hosts Getafe trailed 1-0 following Alvaro Negredo's 19th-minute opener at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

But the home side went in level at the break thanks to Miguel Torres' equaliser.

And they defied expectations to pile on four more goals in the second half, moving level on points with Sevilla in a congested middle section of the table.

"I think we started the match very well, with some chances to score and then they scored with their first opportunity," Garcia said.

"So we had 10 bad minutes afterwards but I think we composed ourselves very well and deserved the result.

"You never think you will be able to win the goal difference against Sevilla. We enjoyed a match that is something we don't see every day, and it was complicated."

"I'd like to congratulate (Alvaro) Arroyo, who was on his debut, the whole team actually because they have been outstanding. Now we can dream, there's now an open door for dreaming."

Sevilla coach Michel Gonzalez was unable to account for his team's second-half capitulation.

"There is no explanation for this," he said.

"We couldn't prevent anything tonight. We had chances and we kept the control in the first half, but the second just has no virtual explanation.

"There are no excuses. A team like we are can never play this way. We can't just forget about it now, we can't hide.

"Anytime Getafe would attack, they were able to score ... I wouldn't really like to tell my opinion because I don't want to look like I'm avoiding my responsibility on this defeat.

"There were some attitudes on the pitch I didn't like but I'm not going to talk about it. I will speak with my players, I don't think anyone is happy tonight."
