Beckenbauer berates Robben

Franz Beckenbauer says Arjen Robben should not have taken the penalty he missed in Bayern Munich's 1-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund.

Dutchman Robben won a penalty when he was brought down inside the area by Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller in the 84th minute of the crucial Bundesliga clash at the Westfalenstadion.

The Netherland international opted to take the spot-kick himself, and his weak attempt was easily saved, leaving Bayern trailing the league leaders and defending champions by six points with four rounds of the campaign to go.

Former Bayern player Beckenbauer feels Robben should have ceded penalty duties to a team-mate.

"Robben would never have taken that penalty if I were the coach," Beckenbauer told Sky.

"There's an unwritten law in football that says the one who got fouled shouldn't take the penalty.

"Maybe this rule was changed, or it hasn't reached Netherlands yet."
