Coupe de France: Quevilly 2 Rennes 1

11 April 2012 23:56

Quevilly progressed to the Coupe de France final with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on Wednesday.

Amateurs Quevilly fell behind eight minutes into the contest after Yann M'Vila's strike led to Julien Feret directing the ball into the net.

The third-tier side were not to be denied, however, and almost equalised with Pierrick Capelle bringing out a smart save from Benoit Costil.

Karim Herouart proved a dangerous threat for Quevilly in the second half, as he got the better of John Boye before being denied by Costil.

Herouart's perseverance eventually earned him a goal, with a fine strike that rocketed into the top corner and beyond the clutches of the goalkeeper.

If that goal brought delirium, the second in the 93rd minute captivated hearts across France as Anthony Laup slid the ball past Costil and sent Quevilly to a first cup final since 1927.

With the win, Quevilly become the first amateur club since Amiens in 2001 to reach the final, and will play Lyon at the Stade de France on April 28.
