Copa Libertadores wrap: Union Espanola advance, Arsenal win

Union Espanola sealed a Copa Libertadores last-16 place with a 2-1 victory over Bolivar on Tuesday, while Arsenal de Sarandi also won.

Jose Luis Sierra's Chilean side took an 18th-minute lead, with Braulio Leal nodding in at the back post after Jorge Ampuero flicked on a corner.

Bolivar went close on several occasions, and Ever Cantero rattled the frame of Eduardo Lobos' goal on the stroke of half-time.

However, the hosts went 2-0 up on 67 minutes with Emanuel Herrera tapping in.

Bolivar pulled one back through Cantero in the 83rd minute, but it was not enough to rescue a point for the visitors in Group 3.

Union Espanola are through to the round-of-16, while Bolivar sit second, a point clear of third-placed Universidad Catolica.

Elsewhere, Arsenal de Sarandi managed to secure a vital three points in Venezuela, recording a 1-0 win over Zamora.

The Argentines were awarded a penalty for handball against Dollbys Rodriguez on the half-hour mark, and Juan Caffa stepped up and tucked the spot-kick away.

Arsenal are third in Group 4 after the win, but need Fluminense to avoid defeat at the hands of Boca Juniors on Wednesday to have any chance of advancing.

In Group 7, Deportivo Quito moved into second with a 2-0 victory at home to Defensor Sporting.

A Luis Checa header and a Julio Bevacqua goal were enough to give the Ecuadorian side an important win, while the visitors had Federico Pintos sent off.

Atletico Nacional moved top of Group 8 after goals from Oscar Murillo, Dorlan Pabon and Diego Alvarez gave them a 3-0 win at home to Penarol.
