Thigh injury sidelines Alves

9 April 2012 11:20

Barcelona defender Dani Alves is in doubt for Tuesday's clash with Getafe after suffering a thigh injury.

The Brazil international picked up a knock in Barca's 4-1 league win over Zaragoza on Saturday and was forced to leave the pitch after 68 minutes of play.

Alves underwent a number of tests on Sunday to determine the extent of his injury, and Barcelona have confirmed on their official website that the right-back has pulled a muscle in his left thigh.

It is not yet exactly known how long the former Sevilla star will be out of action, but it appears unlikely that he will be match fit in time for the game against Getafe at Camp Nou.

The defender is likely to be replaced by Martin Montoya on Tuesday as the youngster also came in as a substitute in his place against Zaragoza at the weekend.

Barcelona have reduced Real Madrid's advantage at the top of the league to four points with seven games remaining this season.
