Winning all that matters to Heynckes

8 April 2012 18:03

Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has targeted maximum points from each one of their remaining matches in the Bundesliga.

With five games left in the season, Bayern trail leaders Borussia Dortmund by three points after Saturday's 2-1 triumph over Augsburg.

The Bavarians surprisingly struggled against Jos Luhukay's team, but the coach had already expected a difficult game and was not too concerned about his team's display.

"All that matters during this phase of a game every three days, is winning, and that's what we've done," Heynckes said after his team extended their winning streak in all competitions to nine matches.

"I always knew it would be tight, and I believe I've been proven right. Augsburg drew away to Hannover and Bremen, and at home to Dortmund. They're a very good unit and well-organised.

"We didn't find a way to break them down in the first half, we were hesitant and too slow. We hit the gas after the break."

Bayern lock horns with reigning champions Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday in a showdown that could essentially decide this season's Bundesliga title.

"We go to Dortmund now with great optimism and huge motivation, even if that game itself won't decide the title race," Heynckes said.

Bayern have also advanced to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they will meet Spanish giants Real Madrid, as well as the final of the DFB Pokal where they will come up against Dortmund.

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said his club would be chasing every trophy possible.

"We're in good shape," he said. "Fortunately, we're still in contention in all three competitions and we're taking them all seriously, and we're well set for these 'Bavarian weeks' we're going through with a match every four days. We need strong nerves, and I do believe that's what we have."
