Premier League: Tottenham 3 Swansea 1

3 April 2012 14:49

Tottenham got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Swansea at White Hart Lane in a solid all-round display from the north Londoners.

First blood went to the home side when Rafael van der Vaart converted good work from Gareth Bale, but the Welsh outfit hit back after the break with another fine goal, this time from Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The hosts re-gained their lead after scorer turned provider when Emmanuel Adebayor headed home from Van der Vaart's corner.

Former Arsenal striker Adebayor then nodded past Michel Vorm again to put Harry Redknapp's men level with his former club in the Premier League standings.

The opening quarter of an hour included a flurry of chances for each side, Van der Vaart firstly shooting wide after Adebayor knocked back Luka Modric's cross.

Swansea went close through former Spurs midfielder Wayne Routledge, with the 26-year-old's snap-shot narrowly missing.

Spurs netted the opener just inside the 20 minute mark, as Van det Vaart calmly directed his curling shot home from outside the area.

Van der Vaart remained influential and almost set up Younes Kaboul for another goal, before Modric also had a chance that went begging just before half-time.

Shortly after the break, Sigurdsson forced Friedel into an outstanding save, before the Iceland international went one better in the 59th minute, firing a delightful half-volley from outside the area.

Spurs looked for a speedy return and went close six minutes after the equaliser, with Van der Vaart denied by Vorm's sharp reflexes.

Adebayor also tested the Swansea custodian, but failed to get a good enough connection to breach the Dutchman's goal.

However, the Togo forward did not have to wait long to ripple to net, rising above the pack to head Van der Vaart's corner past a helpless Vorm.

Spurs looked comfortable in the lead and even had time to extend it, as Aaron Lennon picked out Adebayor to seal the three points.
