DFB Pokal wrap: Dortmund cruise, Hamburg stretched

25 October 2011 23:43

Borussia Dortmund eased into the third round of the DFB Pokal with a 2-0 win over Dynamo Dresden on Tuesday.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Mario Goetze secured a straight-forward victory for the home side against second-tier opposition at Signal Iduna Park.

All of the Bundesliga teams in action on Tuesday progressed, but Borussia Monchengladbach and strugglers Hamburg both received a scare.

Hamburg, second bottom after winning just two matches from 10 so far in the league, needed extra-time to get past Eintracht Trier 2-1.

Trier led 1-0 following Ahmet Kulabas's seventh-minute opener, with Marcus Berg equalising for Hamburg just past the hour mark.

Neither side were capable of forcing a winner in regulation time, leaving defender Dennis Aogo's 109th-minute strike to decide the match in Hamburg's favour.

Monchengladbach came even closer to an embarrassing exit - they were held goalless away to third-tier Heidenheim, before eventually squeezing through courtesy of a 4-3 penalty shootout victory.

Promoted Augsburg were narrow winners; they needed Daniel Brinkmann's 62nd-minute effort to seal 1-0 win away to lowly RB Leipzig, who were promoted from the fifth tier to the northern fourth division last season.

Elsewhere, Hoffenheim came from a goal down to beat Cologne 2-1 in an all-Bundesliga clash.

Mato Jajalo put visitors Cologne ahead six minutes into the match, with Chinedu Ogbuke levelling four minutes before the break.

Knowledge Musona completed the comeback for Hoffenheim when he scored four minutes into the second half.

Greuther Furth won their tie at home to fellow 2.Bundesliga side Paderborn 4-0.

Milorad Pekovic, Christopher Nothe and Olivier Occean all struck within the first 34 minutes of the match, and Tayfun Pekturk added the fourth with 12 minutes remaining.

Paderborn played the final 30 minutes with 10 men following the sending off of Markus Palionis.

In other matches, Bochum dispatched Unterhaching 4-1 away from home, while Fortuna Dusseldorf got past 1860 Munich 3-0.
