Belgian First Division wrap: Anderlecht, Brugge stay dominant

16 October 2011 22:32

Anderlecht and Club Brugge continued their strong starts to the Belgian First Division season with wins on Sunday.

Ariel Jacobs' Anderlecht side crushed Standard Liege 5-0, scoring four goals in the last 20 minutes at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

Former Liverpool attacker Milan Jovanovic sent the hosts on their way with a 15th-minute strike, but they were forced to wait until late on to secure the three points.

Guillaume Gillet, DR Congo international Dieumerci Mbokani and Argentine forward Matias Suarez struck in a 10-minute spell, before Polish defender Marcin Wasilewski added a fifth from the penalty spot.

But their lead atop the standings stays at one point after Club Brugge recorded a 2-0 over Gent.

Thomas Meunier and Bjorn Vleminckx netted for the hosts at Jan Breydel Stadium, leaving Brugge a point adrift first-placed Anderlecht.
