Bundesliga: Werder Bremen 0 Borussia Dortmund 2

14 October 2011 23:05

Borussia Dortmund appear to be finding their title-winning form, overcoming Ivan Perisic's red card to beat Werder Bremen 2-0 on Friday.

The reigning Bundesliga holders have struggled for consistency early in the 2010/11 campaign, but have displayed signs of late that they are returning to their best and have now won three league games in succession.

Goals to Perisic and Patrick Owomoyela handed Juergen Klopp's Dortmund the win - their first at Weserstadion since November 2006 - against a Werder side who were knocked from second spot on the table by their conquerors.

Perisic fired his side ahead in the 42nd minute after he was found by Sven Bender's pass, but the Croatia international still had plenty to do before lashing a left-footed strike past Werder goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz from a tough angle.

The match was to sour for the former Club Brugge attacker, however, with Perisic sent off for a second yellow card just two minutes into the second half.

But despite surrendering the possession and shots on target counts for the match, Dortmund were able to seal the result when Patrick Owomoyela prodded high into the roof of the net from close range on 71 minutes.

There was a hint of offside to Owomoyela's goal after Mats Hummels forced the ball back into the six-yard area, though it was striker Robert Lewandowski and not former Werder full-back Owomoyela who had strayed behind the last defender.
