Esperance star eyes Barca

19 November 2011 12:52

Esperance defender Harrison Afful says the prospect of playing Barcelona at the 2011 Club World Cup puts extra responsibility on his side.

The Spanish powerhouses were paired with the winner of the quarter-final between Al Sadd and Esperance in Thursday's draw for the 2011 Club World Cup in Japan.

The Tunisian outfit won the right to fly the flag for Africa after beating Wydad Casablanca 1-0 on aggregate in the final of the CAFChampions League thanks to Afful's lone goal.

Meanwhile, Al Sadd of Qatar booked their place after defeating South Korea's Jeonbuk Motors on penalties in the AFC Champions League final.

"I'm looking forward to playing against Barcelona," the former Asante Kotoko defender said.

"It's going to be great and memorable. They have a great team and playing them comes with a lot of pressure."

The Ghana international said that although he is upbeat at the prospect of meeting the Camp Nou outfit, it will be better to focus on their first game against Al Sadd.

"It's a confidence booster, however, I think we just have to focus on winning our first game against the Qatar club before Barcelona. It’s one step at a time," Afful said.

"We have to respect all teams and not focus on Barcelona alone. The who tournament is not going to be easy but I personally want us to go a step ahead of TP Mazembe in last year’s event and bring the cup to Africa."

The tournament runs from December 8-18.
