Moyes takes aim at Blatter

18 November 2011 18:00

Everton manager David Moyes has criticised FIFA president Sepp Blatter for his recent comments concerning racism in football.

Recent incidents in the Premier League - including accusations that England and Chelsea captain John Terry allegedly racially abused QPR's Anton Ferdinand - have led to an intense debate on the topic in the past few weeks.

Blatter recently caused outcry after suggesting players should resolve any racist disputes with a handshake - comments he quickly retracted with a further statement reaffirming his commitment to tackling the issue.

"I think his remarks have not helped at all," Moyes said.

"I think they are misplaced, and I think at this period in time where we have a lot going on with situations [of alleged racism] ourselves."

"It may have helped if our FA had been able to deal with those situations quicker, they are keeping the media on their toes all the time."

"If they'd been dealt with a little bit quicker maybe Sepp Blatter wouldn't have made the comments - maybe the question wouldn't have been asked of him, or maybe he'd have answered it differently, I don't know."

"You can only say that the comments he's made are completely misplaced and not correct."
