Belgian First Division: Anderlecht slip, Tchite fires for Standard

Belgian First Division leaders Anderlecht failed to win for the first time in eight league matches on Sunday, losing 1-0 at Cercle Brugge.

Anderlecht had to play close to an hour of the match with 10 men following the dismissal of Serbia forward Milan Jovanovic in the 35th minute.

While unable to force the breakthrough at the Jan Breydelstadion, the 10-man visitors also kept out Cercle Brugge and looked set to take a point from the match.

But Portuguese striker Rudy had other ideas, scoring in the 91st minute to snatch victory for the home side.

Anderlecht remain top despite the defeat, but they are now just three points clear of second-placed Cercle Brugge.

Also on Sunday, Standard Liege recorded a 2-1 win at home to Club Brugge.

A brace from Burundi striker Mohamed Tchite, with a goal in each half, put hosts Standard in charge of proceedings in at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

The visitors pulled one back through Morocco midfielder Nabil Dirar with 13 minutes to go, but they proved unable to force an equaliser in the time remaining.

Club Brugge were led by caretaker manager Rudy Verkempinck following the sacking of Adrie Koster last Sunday.

But they have now lost three league matches in succession and are without a win from six outings in all competitions.
