RSL taking nothing for granted

2 November 2011 13:08

Real Salt Lake boss Jason Kreis has warned his side against complacency ahead of their MLS semi-final second leg against the Seattle Sounders.

RSL head to Seattle for their Western Conference semi full of confidence after their resounding 3-0 victory at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah on Saturday.

Alvaro Saborio bagged a brace for the 2009 champions who look on track to advance to the Western Conference final, but Kreis is taking nothing for granted and is reluctant to merely protect their lead.

"I don't think we are in a position to do that. I'm taking nothing for granted and making no assumptions about this game so we will play our strongest line-up possible and hopefully get the result we need," Kreis said.

"I think we need to approach it as we would any other game to be completely honest. I know that could be just speak, for me, we've got to approach it as if we are 0-0, or maybe even 1-0."

"I think it would be a complete disaster if we approached it as if we've got a huge cushion. We need to be aggressive in our mindset still."

Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando knows what Seattle are all about and expects them to come and attack from the kick-off.

"They are going to come at us with everything. They are definitely going to be an offensive team, they play at home like that anyway," Rimando said.

"They are going to be comfortable going for the goals in front of their home fans in that huge stadium."

Sounders manager Sigi Schmid was on the wrong end of a four-goal turnaround in a memorable playoff tie in the 2003 finals series.

Then manager of LA Galaxy he saw his side surrender a 4-0 lead in the second leg after the Galaxy had won the first leg 2-0 and followed that with two early goals.

San Jose Earthquakes staged a remarkable comeback with four goals to level the tie before going on to win by way of a golden goal.
