Chelsea condemn fans´ chants

2 November 2011 11:23

Chelsea have spoken out against their own fans who were taunting QPR defender Anton Ferdinand during their Champions League tie against Genk.

The Blues drew 1-1 in Belgium after having taken the lead through a first-half Ramires goal, but the match was overshadowed by a section of the visiting support who were thought to be singing: "Anton Ferdinand, you know what you are".

The chanting came in support of Chelsea captain John Terry, who is now under police investigation for allegedly racially abusing Ferdinand in the 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road last month.

However, soon after the match, a club spokesman quickly moved to distance the club from the fans’ actions, saying: "It was wholly inappropriate and we don't condone it."

The chanting has come at a bad time for the London outfit, who are suffering problems on and off the pitch, with fourth-placed Chelsea having lost their last two league matches.
