Brazil a daunting test: Levein

25 March 2011 22:11

Craig Levein will welcome the opportunity for his Scotland team to test themselves against Brazil in a friendly on Sunday.

Scotland have enjoyed some positive results in recent fixtures, recording consecutive 3-0 wins over the Faroe Islands and Northern Ireland in their last two matches.

They also ran World and European champions Spain close in a 3-2 home defeat in October.

A victory against five-time World Cup winners Brazil would appear beyond Scotland's capabilities, but Levein is looking forward to the challenge.

"You can't run away from it," Scotland manager Levein said of the daunting match at the Emirates Stadium.

"You have to stretch yourself at times and see where you are and that's what this game is for, to see where we actually are."

"We played Spain last October and put on a fantastic show and arguably Brazil are of that standard. So it is another test for us."

"It is a fairly daunting task. I think we have played them nine times and haven't managed to get a victory yet so there is a challenge for us."

"I am looking for our guys to get confidence out of the game."

"It sounds a bit silly when playing the best team in the world but there are so many things that can happen in a football match that you can take confidence from."

"I think we are in a better place now than we were eight or nine months ago so we will have a go and see what we can do."

Scotland, who are not in European Championship qualifying action in this round of international fixtures, are third in Group I, two points behind the Czech Republic and five behind leaders Spain.
