Liverpool travel to Fulham on Monday as the owners of a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
Kenny Dalglish's sixth-placed Liverpool have struggled to win at times this season – their tally of six league victories from 13 matches is the fewest of any team in the top seven.
But they have also proven hard to beat, losing only twice and drawing five.
The most recent of those draws came when they held league-leaders Manchester City 1-1 at home in the Premier League last Sunday.
Either side of that encouraging result there have been two away wins over Chelsea, first in the league and then again in the Carling Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.
If Dalglish's team can turn their stubborn refusal to be beaten into a winning habit, they will be confident of challenging for a Champions League berth.
And it remains to be seen if Fulham can offer effective opposition to the in-form Merseyside outfit.
Inconsistency has plagued the London club's performances this season under new manager Martin Jol.
They have drawn their past two in the Premier League, 1-1 away to Arsenal and 0-0 at Sunderland, and in their most recent result they were beaten 1-0 in the Europa League away to Dutch side FC Twente.
Halting Arsenal's five-match winning run was an impressive achievement.
But Fulham have managed only one victory in their past six league outings, leaving them 15th on the table, just three points outside the relegation zone.
Jol has not been helped by a string of injuries restricting his selection options, but the good news for Fulham is that some of the absentees are nearing a return.
Veteran winger Damien Duff, midfielder Steve Sidwell and defender Stephen Kelly could all be available for the clash at Craven Cottage.
Simon Davies is yet to make an appearance this season, while Zdenek Grygera is likely to miss the rest of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
For Liverpool, only club captain Steve Gerrard is missing from the first-team regulars.
After sitting out the start of the campaign due to a groin injury, the experienced midfielder returned to action in September, but has been sidelined again by an ankle infection since October 22.
