Ex-Birmingham man Benitez makes scoring return

MEXICO CITY (AFP) - Ecuadorian striker Christian Benitez made a scoring return to the Mexican league on Sunday, netting a brace in a 4-1 win for Santos Laguna over Atlante in the opening game of the Apertura season.

'Chucho' Benitez, 24, had a spell on loan to Birmingham City in the English Premier League last season but only sporadically impressed before heading back to Santos.

He opened the scoring on the half hour before rounding off the win in the final minute.
