Wolfsburg seal 8 million euro Mandzukic signing

16 July 2010 20:35

ZAGREB (AFP) - Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic has joined German side Wolfsburg on a four-year contract from Dinamo Zagreb for a fee of eight million euros, local media reported on Friday.

"My wish was to play in the Bundesliga. Now I'm at a very good club and I hope that I will justify expectations," said the 24-year-old Mandzukic, who spent part of his childhood in Germany.

Mandzukic, who joined Dinamo Zagreb in 2007, has signed a four-year contract at the club that won the 2008-09 German title.

The Croatia international scored 52 goals in 110 matches during his time with Dinamo and will replace Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins, who has joined Russian outfit Rubin Kazin.

He becomes new Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren's third major signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Germany defender Arne Friedrich from Hertha Berlin and highly rated Danish centre-back Simon Kjaer from Palermo.
