Henry hangs up international boots

15 July 2010 21:08

(GSM) - France legend Thierry Henry has announce his retirement from international football after 13 years in service of the French national team. The new New York Bulls' signing has hung his international boots following France's humiliating group-stage exit at the 2010 World Cup.

The 32-year-old forward revealed his intention to quit Les Bleus to the Associated Press ahead of his first press conference with the New York RB.

Henry said: "(This is) the end for me on the national team. The game against South Africa was my last appearance with the French squad. Ironically, it was also my first game in the national team against South Africa."

Henry leaves his national team with a truly exceptional record after winning the World Cup and European Championship.

The former Barcelona and Arsenal forward quits as France's all-time goal scorer with 51 goals in 123 appearances.

After going to South Africa with the rest of the French squad, Henry has made it to four World Cup finals.
