Portugal´s Sousa to boss Leicester

7 July 2010 12:25

LONDON (AFP) - Former Portugal midfielder Paulo Sousa has been appointed the new manager of Leicester City, the English Championship side announced Wednesday.

Sousa, 39, left his post as manager of second-tier rivals Swansea on Monday in order to begin talks with the Foxes, who've been after a new boss following Nigel Pearson's decision to join Hull.

"I am delighted to acquire a manager of such great calibre," said Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.

"Paulo has an excellent reputation as both a player and now as a manager, and I believe he is the right man to take our club forward," the former Portsmouth owner added.

"I admire his style of football and I am sure all our supporters will join me in looking ahead to the new season."

Sousa said: "I am delighted to be here, it is a great club with great supporters and a rich history and I am very excited by the challenge.

"The club has a fantastic stadium with great facilities and I am very much looking forward to working with the players."
