Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed midfielder Modeste M'Bami will not be joining the club.

The two parties failed to agree an acceptable deal.

The 26-year-old Cameroon international, who is a free agent after the expiry of his contract with Marseille, spent the last fortnight on trial with Wigan.

M'Bami was offered a short-term deal but wanted a longer contract, and the player is now thought to be close to a move to Spanish side Almeria.

He has 28 caps and seven goals for his country.

M'Bami, who was also linked with a move to Portsmouth, played in the Champions League last season for Marseille.
