Adebayor: `I don`t deserve a punishment`

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor believes he doesn`t deserves a punishment from the English Football Association (FA).
The forward from Togo stamped on Robin van Persie`s face in Saturday`s match against Arsenal (4-2 win for City) and taunted the fans of his former club after scoring the third goal.
On Sunday FA chief executive Ian Watmore already told that the player`s actions would come under scrutiny.
Today, Adebayor told the press he doesn`t know why he should be punished. `Neither the police or the FA have told me that they want to talk to me. The same goes for the club.`
`I heard a steward got wounded after Arsenal fans threw firework,` the City striker said.
`I regret that. I also apologized to Robin. It was foolish from me to celebrate my goal in front of the Arsenal fans but they cursed at me. It wasn`t planned at all, it came to my head at the last moment. That`s all.`
Arsenal forward Van Persie said Adebayor didn`t apologized to him. `I didn`t heard apologies from him. In fact, I`ve heard nothing at all from him.`
On Saturday the Dutch international already stated that he was furious at his former teammate.
I am sad and disappointed by Emmanuel Adebayor's mindless and malicious stamp on me during the match," said the Dutchman.
`We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical. I, too, have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today.`
`I feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury. The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football.`
