Spain crush Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina remain on track

6 September 2009 00:03

Spain earned a very convincing 5-0 victory over Belgium this Saturday, while Bosnia-Herzegovina defended their second place in Group 5 with a 0-2 win in Armenia.

It was very much a Valencia-inspired victory for Spain. David Silva scored the opener in the 41st minute and David Villa netted the second four minutes after the break.

Gerard Pique then immediately scored for 3-0, and Silva (68) and Villa (85) each added another for a rather simple 5-0 win over Belgium.

Bosnia-Herzegovina remain four points ahead of third-placed Turkey thanks to a 0-2 win over Armenia. Senijad Ibricic opened the score after just five minutes, and Zlatan Muslimovic doubled the advantage in the 73rd.

Turkey were the better side against Estonia, beating their opponents 4-2. Vladmir Voskoboinikov's 7th-minute opener was cancelled out by Tuncay Sanli in the 25th, and Sercan Yildirim then made it 2-1 11 minutes later.

The Estonians fought their way back into the match as Konstantin Vassiljev netted for 2-2 in minute 52, but goals from Arda Turan (61) and Tuncay Sanli (72) eventually set the score to 4-2.

The Spanish lead with a 100 percent score of 21 points, six points ahead of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
