Sao Paulo jumped to the top of the Brazilian Serie A following a narrow win over Gremio Barueri, applying additional pressure on Palmeiras in the process.
At the start of Saturday's game, Sao Paulo occupied second place at two points from Palmeiras, who play a home match with Corinthians on Sunday.
Sao Paulo needed only four minutes for Jorge Wagner to score the opening goal against Gremio Barueri, not to be confused with the better known Gremio of Porto Alegre.
No more goals were scored in the remainder of the match, allowing Sao Paulo to surpass Palmeiras at the top of the league, at least for a day.
