Real Madrid Coach Pellegrini blamed by fans for poor performance by the team

A humiliating 4-0 defeat suffered by Real Madrid against the third division minnows Alcorcon in the first leg of the knockout phase of the Copa del Rey has greatly curled the spirits of the Madrid fans.

The historic defeat has raised mixed raging opinions from the fans with players, coaches and managers being blamed for the embarrassing image they presented against a second grade team. Marca and AS, who lend the unerring support to Los Blancos, are now unequivocal in their condemnation of the team and are trying to clarify the terms of the angry crowd by opinion polls and survey.

AS paper, the most biased towards the Real, were shocked to shame post 4-0 defeat and carried the headline, "The ridicule of the century" and went on to hold internet survey to ensure Real players get a good jolt of their fans frustration and anger.

According to AS, out of 6613 responses in the internet survey, 52% believe that players are to be blamed for poor results in recent matches,18% blame the directors and 14% point directly to Manuel Pellegrini as the cause of poor play by the Los Blancos.

To the question 'Should Florentino dismiss Pellegrini?' 67% imminently felt that the coach should be sacked while very few call for patience to wait for a result or two.

On the other hand yet another Real biased sports daily, Marca said it all with 'Go Now' written in large font across the page next to a picture of the beleaguered Pellegrini. The daily believes Pellegrini's has generated an unsustainable situation with his inability to construct a good team and his lack of responsibility to do his homework has lead to one such situation.

"The defeats to Sevilla and AC Milan and then the draw at Sporting have led to this humiliating scoreline that saw Jorge Valdano obliged to ask the Madrid fans for forgiveness," states the editorial on Marca.

"The sobering defeat that happened on Tuesday shows that the Chilean has failed in his role at the helm. Florentino and Valdano will continue to consider his position as coach. On Saturday we shall see what the Santiago Bernabeu thinks."

The future of Real Madrid coach will depend on the results obtained by the team in the upcoming matches. Real will play Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in league match and Milan at San Siro in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Real captain Raul insist his side can still turn around their Copa del Rey tie against Alcorcon when the meet again in two weeks.

"If there is a club that knows about overcoming, that is Real Madrid. We will not give up. In two weeks, we will play this team again, and we have an opportunity to fix what happened here,'' says Raul.

"I've experienced eliminations from the Copa del Rey before and bad results in other ties, but the great fight-backs in Real Madrid history have come following bad results in important competitions. Everything was poor and we did the worst we could do, so as from Wednesday the only thing to do is continue working because there are many people who want to see us win. It's in our hands and depends on us now.''

The Spanish forward also insisted that, everyone in the team should shoulder the responsibility of this bad result and said, "We win and we lose together, which is why we are all to be blamed."

Real Madrid with C. Ronaldo: 7 games, 7 win, 9 goals from CR. Then he got injured and without him: 5 games, 1 win, 3 loss, 1 dr. the problem is with the players mentallity.Who is responsible? The coach. I guess Pellegrini will be sacked after the game against Barça.

red4ever, as I have stated many times before, you can fire as many coaches as you want, but in the end it's the players' responsibility to play as well as the money they receive. The coach is not a mentor teaching 5-year-old kids how to play the game. Just keep that in mind!

Agreed Tonto. As a Real supporter, I'm personally sick of the revolving door at the manager's position. That may be partly to blame for the lack of titles in the past several years... no stability. That said, red4ever, players are not babies, and managers aren't babysitters. The players should change tactics if the current ones aren't producing results on the pitch. There's only so much a manager can do. I place 90% of this loss squarely on the shoulders of the players, who looked like they were sleepwalking through the match. It was a total disgrace, but I won't crucify Pellegrini for it... yet. ;)
