PARIS (AFP) - Fabrice Pancrate signed for Championship highflyers Newcastle on Sunday on a free transfer, his former club Paris Saint Germain announced. The French striker has spent the past two weeks on Tyneside and has now put pen to paper on a deal until the end of the season with an option to extend.

Among other clubs the 29-year-old - who played for PSG from 2004-09 before being released in June this year - also had spells with Le Mans, Sochaux and Spanish side Real Betis, for half a season.

Pancrate scored 16 goals in 155 matches in French football.
