Boos ring out as Real crash out of Spanish Cup

A Real Madrid´s supporter reacts after his team only managed a 1-0 victory over over third division Alcorcon in Spanish Cup. Alcorcon goes through to the last 16 with a 4-1 aggregate score.

MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid crashed out of the Spanish Cup on Tuesday as they could only manage a 1-0 victory at the Bernabeu over third division Alcorcon, who went through to the last 16 with a 4-1 aggregate score.

The loss extended 17-time winners' Real's drought in the competition dating back to 1993.

The Real supporters had booed the players off at half-time while there were cries of 'Pellegrini resign' at the coach Manuel Pellegrini, especially when the 56-year-old Chilean replaced Real's most impressive player on the night Frenchman Lassana Diarra with over 20 minutes remaining.

Pellegrini, who took over in the close season after an impressive spell in charge of Villarreal, had started with four strikers including Kaka, Real icon Raul and former Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, they failed to have the impact he wished and it wasn't until the 81st minute they scored, through Dutch attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

Pellegrini tried to justify his substitution of Diarra.

"I could have been selfish because I knew that changing 'Lass' wasn't going to please," said Pellegrini.

"But it was important that the player didn't injure himself. I think about the player and the team before myself," said Pellegrini who admitted they weren't up to the task on the night.

"We did what seemed necessary but the away result was heavy," he added.

It's a proof that football is not an exact science .You can dominate , try 30 , 40 shots if no 1 of them goes in but the other team who can try 1 shot and goes in they will win the game. Cup games are like this and personally I don't blame anyone for it . People think 3rd division is weak , but in 1 good day they can create surprises and that's what happened . They are from Madrid , so congratulations .

Well , they are in rhe second division but the second is diveded to A and B levels , I prefer to call it 3rd division , the funny thing is that they suffered against the worst team in that lower division but they could beat us . Madrid's mistake was not to let them leave from their own half to free more space in their area .

Earlier this year I posted a comment, saying that if Pellegrini should be unable to produce the goods, he'll be let go before Xmas.

I stand by what I said earlier !!

It all depend on the league games , in 2 weeks we will play in Barcelona and if Madrid get a positive result then Pellegrini is a good coach for media , if he loses then he is a bad coach .

When you have a team like Madrid who never play defensive style who ever they face , we give a chance for other teams to play and I guess we are not making headache for other coaches because we play offensive rather then teams like Inter who were defending against Barcelona for example . When we go to Barcelona we will attack all the time , but watch Inter in their next game what anti-football they will play .

If I'm not mistaken, the Spanish Cup is the third or fourth most important tournament in Spain. So what's all this doom and gloom about Real Madrid and Pellegrini? Now that I can watch a number of live games from Europe, I had the pleasure of seeing Real play 3 games already. They play a very entertaining brand of offensive soccer. They are second in the league and they are still in the CL even without the services of Ronaldo. What more do we want?

One cup lost...two more to go. Bye bye Pellegrini. Bye bye Real.

Alboi, last week you censured Hollyice for hating Inter. I believe you put it this way: "You're not Italian. Let Inter be. Why do you hate them so much?"

You seem to hate Real Madrid with a passion. Are you from Spain? If not, let Real Madrid be.

I am sure if Alboi is a decent Italian he would agree with me that Inter should line Italians at the start , it's a country of the king of sports , so there should be many good players who deserve to be payed like other clubs do it for own national players , I won't believe this choice is due to lack of good players like Alboi said , but it's the sick thoughts of Mr Moratti and Mourinho who want to make people believe that it's better to play without Italians .

Alboi sleep well !
