Title out of sight as Palmeiras lose to Fluminense

Jonathan Roorda - 8 November 2009 21:21

Palmeiras are no longer in first place

Palmeiras are no longer on course to win this year's Brazilian Serie A, following a 1-0 defeat at Fluminense on Sunday.

Sao Paulo already played on Wednesday, drawing 1-1 with Gremio. This left Sao Paulo one point ahead of Palmeiras, who required a win themselves to reconquer their lead.

It wasn't meant to be however, as Palmeiras never managed to break through Fluminense's defense and even conceded a goal from Fred shortly before the hour.

With four rounds left to play in Brazil, Sao Paulo are now one point ahead of Palmeiras. Flamengo, who beat Atletico Mineiro 1-3, follow at another point.

Even Mineiro shouldn't be ruled out, as they are only three points behind leaders Sao Paulo.
