Van Persie looks for revenge against Manchester City

Arsenal forward Robin van Persie hopes his coach Arsene Wenger will let him play against Manchester City.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie hopes his coach Arsene Wenger will change his way of thinking ahead of the League Cup clash with Manchester City. Wenger is resolute in his approach to the League Cup in that he allows his young players to play throughout the competition - no matter how far they get. But van Persie is hoping that against City he will be given the chance to play.

The two clubs were involved in a highly-charged league clash earlier this season which saw City triumph 4-2 on home soil.

The game was remembered for Emmanuel Adebayor scoring against his old club and running the full length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans, whilst the Togo striker also stamped on van Persie - for which he received a ban.

"I want to play that one," Van Persie said upon hearing the League Cup draw. "It was a good game last time because they have a good side.

"It will be a good challenge for the youngsters. If they can find the right mix like they did against Liverpool, they have a big chance of winning. They showed some quality in that game."

"We fancy winning this one. I would love to play – if the boss decides to let me play, I am happy to.”
