Feyenoord Rotterdam risk losing out on the UEFA Europa League following a 3-2 defeat to NAC Breda in the first round of the Dutch play-offs.

Most of the action at NAC versus Feyenoord took place in the second half. Rob Penders scored the opening goal for the home side in the 56th minute and Donny Gorter made it 2-0 on the hour.

Roy Makaay then got one back from the penalty spot but Matthew Amoah restored the gap with seven minutes to go. Feyenoord would get to 3-2 though as Jon Dahl Tomasson converted another penalty late on. Tom van der Leegte had been sent off for the foul that caused the spot kick.

FC Utrecht and FC Groningen held each other to a 3-3 draw in the other play-off tie. Tim Cornelisse, Leroy George and Morten Skoubo scored for the hosts but Marcus Berg levelled three times to earn Groningen a good position ahead of the second leg.

The return legs are scheduled for Thursday, May 21st.
