Racism means Juve must play behind closed doors

Arjen Robijn - 15 May 2009 15:20

Juventus must play Sunday´s Serie A match against Atalanta behind closed doors as punishment for a recent outbreak of racist chanting, including one at Mario Balotelli, seen here in April 2009.

ROME (AFP) - Juventus must play Sunday's Serie A match against Atalanta behind closed doors as punishment for a recent outbreak of racist chanting, the Italian league authorities said Friday.

The decision backed up Thursday's legal ruling by the Italian Olympic Committee which rejected a Juve appeal against punishment to an outbreak of racist chanting against Inter Milan's star of Ghanaian origin, Mario Balotelli, during an April 18 match.

That's not the best idea , punishing 30.000 club lovers because of few idiots is completely inadmissible .

hollyice: what would your sanction be? hit them where it hurts. maybe if the decent fans are now pissed they won't put up w/ racism by their neighbors. point out the idiots who are chanting, kick them out & bar these pukes from future games.

Hollyice, that's the best comment I've read from you!

In addition, It would only take 50 fans, who don't like a certain team, to make racial remarks to damage the financial condition of that team. Bad decision. They are only punishing loyal fans.

chuckieluv many teams suffer this "curse" , some people are just crazy and agressive when they drink and go to stadiums to shout loudly their hate against others , not necessatrily black , it's enough to be from an other part of the country .The solution is to put more cameras inside stadiums , catch exactly those who make troubles . Jail is not a solution , but a heavy financial sanction to punish them .

Balotelli didnt celebrate his goal against Chievo , but a replay of the video showed he made some sign towards Chievo supporters when he scored a fantastic goal . Some people keep that as provoking gesture , players have to avoid that also .

This is the latest nonsense from European footbal administrators.

If racism is a crime, then it is up to law enforcement agencies to get rid of the problem, i.e. it is not the responsibility of the clubs and innocent spectators should certainly not be punished.

And if racism is a moral issue, we certainly do not need to be preached moral standards by football administrators, UEFA, FIFA or anyone else !!!!!
