Ajax finish third in Eredivisie, Volendam relegated
Ajax earned a narrow win over FC Twente on the last day of the Dutch regular season, to secure their third place ahead of PSV Eindhoven. FC Volendam are relegated.
Urby Emanuelson scored the only goal of the match between Ajax and Twente after 60 minutes at the Amsterdam Arena. As a result, the team remain in third place with three points more than PSV.
The Eindhoven outfit closed their regular reason campaign with a 0-3 win at Willem II. Goals were scored by Ola Toivonen, Balasz Dzsudzsak and Danny Koevermans.
Roda JC beat Feyenoord Rotterdam 2-3 to escape direct relegation, at the expense of Volendam who drew 1-1 at De Graafschap. The goal that sealed the side's fate was in fact an own goal from Gerry Koning in the 78th minute.
Roda JC and De Graafschap will have to appear in promotion/relegation play-offs.
