Sheva move to Monaco impossible, says Monaco Coach

An uncertain juggling future lies ahead for Shevchenko.

Ukrainian international and Chelsea FC's striker Andriy Shevchenko has been linked with a switch to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco, due to his uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

One of the Europe's most feared striker of the past, the 32 year-old spent last season on loan at AC Milan, after struggling to make an impact in the Premier League.

But with one year left in his contract with Chelsea the striker is still kept in the dark about his involvement with Carlo Ancelotti's plan.

Although the player has admitted that he would be interested in a move to Rome based AS Roma, there are reports that AS Monaco have shown interest.

However, Monaco coach Lacombe does not believe the French side have the financial clout to capture Shevchenko.

"It has never been topical," Lacombe told Aujourd'hui Sport.

"Shevchenko is not a possibility for us.”

"For a club like ours, it is impossible. ASM's means are really inferior compared to what they were.”

"If Steve Savidan joins the club it will be enough for the forwards."

However, Marco Simone, who represents Shevchenko in France and Italy, was remaining coy on the rumours linking the 32-year-old with Monaco.

Simone said: "There is nothing to say today. There is a possibility that is true, but I won't say anything else."

Please, just retire Sheva. I get that you love the game, but it's painful to see a player who was the best at what he did, fall off like you have. Nobody want's you, and you're too old to relive past glories. You never should have left Milan.

Retire and do what? Polish shoes? He still needs to make a living, whether you like it or not! If you don't like to watch him play, turn off the tv. I still respect Shevchenko and I think he is a very nice and humble man. He can still give much to any club that he goes to. He may not be the best, but at 32 it is too early to retire. He should keep playing, just like Vieri is playing. It is painful to watch what he has become knowing what he was for me too. But I'm not going to say that he is trash now, just because Milan and Chelsea have better strikers at the moment and don't utilize him. If he goes to a club like Lazio or Napoli, Shevchenko can still be very useful as he will play for the first team. The same thing happened with Crespo at Inter. Inter was not using him because they have better strikers, but now Genoa has him and maybe he will bring them success.

This is a bit of a tragic story.

When he was at Milan, Sheva was widely regarded as the best striker in the world. The move to Chelsea was the worst possible decision in his career.

He never should have left Milan !!

alboi,

I think you're on to something actually. I was calling for Sheva to retire, because, for the past few years, it's seemed he was unwilling to play for a sub-par side. Napoli would be a great fit for Sheva though (with Zarate at Lazio, I just don't know how much pitch time Sheva would see). And I do agree with you... Sheva has been a top class pro, despite his career going astray. I guess I would say... retire from top flight football, a la Rivaldo or (like you stated) Vieri. I will contend that Vieri was a superior striker to Sheva, but that's neither here nor there, and Crespo was wasted by Inter while he was very near the top of his game! Sheva CAN help someone. It's just not going to be a top side.
