Real Madrid, Juventus among teams at 4th Peace Cup

Jonathan Roorda - 23 July 2009 23:36

Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium is one of the venues for the 4th Peace Cup

Some of the world's top teams are about to face off in the fourth edition of the Peace Cup, which is to be played in the Spanish region of Andalusia and in the country's capital, Madrid.

The Peace Cup was first held in 2003 and was since played every two years. The first three editions were all organized by South Korea.

No less than twelve teams participate in this tournament, of which the group phase consists of four groups of three. The winner of each group advances to the semi finals.

Group A contains Sevilla, Italian giants Juventus and South Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. Sevilla have the advantage of playing both their games in their own city.

Most eyes will probably be on Real Madrid, who share Group B with 2008 Libertadores winners LDU Quito and Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia. Madrid play both of their games at their own Bernabeu stadium.

Malaga, the third and final Spanish team, face a tough challenge against Premiership side Aston Villa and Mexican outfit Atlante. All matches in this group are to be played at Malaga's La Rosaleda.

The fourth group is extremely difficult to predict. Olympique Lyon, Besiktas and FC Porto are all candidates to finish in first place.

Action starts on Friday, July 24, and the group phase ends on the 29th. The two semi finals are to be played in July 31st and the final is scheduled for August 2, at Sevilla's La Cartuja.

According to bookmakers, Real Madrid are favorites to win the tournament. Juventus are second in line, ahead of Sevilla and Porto.

PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon won the three previous editions.

Madrid is just too solid and deep as a team! They are TRULY the BEST soccer team on the planet; hence, LOS GALACTICOS y naturalmente soy miembro del Real Madrid desde el 2004! Ahora como me gustaria ver unos juegos de la Champions este ano jo macho.

REAL MADRID GALACTICOS:

well this is good. I was thinking it would be boring with nothing to watch after the World Football Challenge and some of the friendlies out there were too boring anyway. This seems alright with Juventus (I'd like to see how Diego performs), RMA, Seville, Porto, and OL (I'd like to watch Ederson in action).

Friendly Tournament, looks like a fun one too, with a variety of teams.

Let's hope the teams the glory hunters are for go down, Aston Villa or Sevilla to win!!

oasis,

I share your enthusiasm for our new side, and it does remind me of the type of team we had circa 2004. We should also do very well in the CL. If we don't, heads will roll, as there's a lot of pressure to win it this year, since the final would be at home. I can't, however, call them the world's best team, because they haven't done anything yet. The team is still going through the motions, with new players settleing in, but I do think this season could be special.Let's hope we get off to a fast start in all competitions, so we don't have to sweat results later in the season, and so we can rest players for vital CL matches. Los Blancos look set to dominate football this year... let's just hope it all comes together.

Forza mamabayon ditu alan.....i was there in the flesh and in the stands for that 2003/04 Real Madrid season! In fact, the ONLY CL games i did not attend were their 1st one against Marseille (i watched that on Canal +) and the Bayern Munich game (55 Euros for an aftermarket ticket was too steep a price to pay). It was a GREAT CL they had back then.

I love Real Madrid but i do understand that at times they do make rather bizzare decisions. I really hope they keep Van Nistelrooy because they are going to be FORCE to be reckoned with in both LA LIGA and CL!

Peace out bro,

Some football to see when going back home today . Pellegrini will probably use two different teams to give chance to everyone , personally I am not waiting sunday's and tuesday's games to be at a high level , but I wish to see Madrid against Sevilla or Juventus, that's where we can see how ready they are to start the season .

Real will use this tournament to support the Madrid's olympic candidacy for 2016 to add some news for Soccerway's article .

I dont know what Escape_To_Victory means by "Let's hope the teams the glory hunters are for go down, Aston Villa or Sevilla to win!!" , but I guess he doesnt deserve an answer , I still dont believe he is American because of his english writing skill which is as bad as Tonto's english .

"Glory hunters" we use it for people like you ETV who support 5 , 6 teams and have 7, 8 jerseys . We dont say Glory Hunters for clubs , and at least not to the greatest club if you meant Madrid .

Glory hunters are the guys who supported ManU when they were good with Ronaldo and do not care about them anymore after the best players left , and again such as you ETV , Alboi , Tonto , Newty ... you make me laugh you guys .

Wish all the Madridistas all over the globe to enjoy this tournament and hope it will be fun .

Chelsea4awhile, I will always be a Milanista.

AC Milan will win the Scudetto, the EC and the club WC, and Italy will win the WC in RSA.

"How do you like them apples?"

Oasisthunder, you might as wel say it now whether you forget it or not. Spain is not going to win the WC simply because they aren't a "potencia Internacional." They could not even win the Confederation Cup!

Alboi, I read your posting. You do have freedom of speech. The problem is that too many abuse it by posting vulgar, racist, obscene, offending and out of topic comments. I can't blame Soccerway for removing them.
