12-year-old makes league debut

An unlikely sight in Bolivian football on the weekend, as Aurora Cochabamba manager Julio cesar Baldivieso allowed his 12 year old son to make his debut in a league game.

Cochabamba were down 1-0 against La Paz, when Baldivieso brought on his young son Mauricio.

The youngster wasn't well-received and immediatelly mowed down by an opponent. After receiving injury treatment however, Mauricio returned to the pitch with an ovation from the fans as result.

Although Baldivieso junior couldn't turn around the result, he does become the youngest player ever to make his debut in South American soccer. Mauricio turns 13 on Wednesday.

What a bunch of bullshit. Even football is corrupt in Bolivia right in front of the eyes of thousands of people. The coach puts in his son just because he can. If I were a player on the opposite team, I would mow him down too. That shit is disrespectful to professionals.

In Uganda, we call that Kamanyiriro (Insolence) how can that coach do that for sure. In africa, child labour is intolerable Julio cesar Baldivieso as a punishment should be lashed 50 canes. With Immediate Effect.

Yes, well, in Uganda you do a lot of other human rights violations. Luckily, the rest of the world isn't like that. I don't agree with the coach, but 50 lashes seems like you're still living in the 15th century. Come on now.

alboi, you come on now and relax. When someone comes out admitting that there is a problem in their country, pointing out that there are other problems there serves no purpose but to demean. As far as the punishment, I agree with Muziransa. In much of the West, a parent can use corporal (physical) punishment against his/her child, and so why not, some lashes for parental disobedience. Oh, and send alboi to Uganda for his disobedience!

I heard this kid also makes a mean rice & bannanas dish (platano macho con arroz!). Yummy & good for your tummy :)

topmiller,

LOL! Criticism accepted and point taken. But I still disagree with Muziransa.

Where is the child labor in this whole thing? It's probably been a dream for the kid to play in a pro-league and the coach, being his father, subbed the kid in. He is able to get away with this in Bolivia. Now you don't fix a problem in a country like that with a justice system that still lives in the past. In what civilized country would you be lashed with a cane 50 times? Maybe in Uganda, but that is hardly civilized. You can fire the coach, but you have no right to physically abuse him.

It seems too common for some of these countries to use physical violence for every problem. Only animals do that. Humans have reason.

the worst part of this is that the coach may have just crushed the spirit of his son. He must have been humiliated and may never want to play the sport again. What a fool that coach is.

50 Cane lashes should be reserved for those who commit a crime. Is sending a 13-year-old player on the pitch a crime? It was only an act of stupidity by a proud father. I don't know about you, but when I was 13, I was dreaming of playing for the Azzurri and scoring all 4 goals against Brazil in a W.C. finals. It was only a dream but it felt good!
