Real gives up hope on Ribery - director general

AFP - 8 July 2009 12:40

Real Madrid have resigned themselves to the fact that they will not be able to recruit French international Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich this season due to the German club´s intransigence, Real director general Jorge Valdano says.

MADRID (AFP) - Real Madrid have resigned themselves to the fact that they will not be able to recruit French international Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich this season due to the German club's intransigence, Real director general Jorge Valdano says.

"We have the feeling that Ribery will not quit Bayern this season," he told radio Marca late Tuesday.

"Bayern finds many ways to say no, sometimes saying it categorically, sometimes by talking of a transfer fee of 80 million euros, which is another way of saying no," he added.

"So it is with resignation that we will wait for another opportunity which will certainly come. He has two years left on his contract with Bayern, and well, life is long," Valdano said.

German daily tabloid Bild reported on Tuesday that Bayern had set a price tag of 80 million euros on the 26-year-old midfielder and had given Real until July 16 to decide if they are ready to stump up the cash or not.

Bayern's new coach Louis van Gaal said Sunday that the issue of a possible transfer would be resolved faster as the uncertainty is bad both for Ribery, who has said he wants to go to Real, and the team which is upset with the battle raging on the future its star player.

Valdano also told Radio Marca that Real's efforts to recruit Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso had cooled in the face of Liverpool's demand of 47 million euros for the player.

"They demanded a transfer amount that was too high for our taste. It is possible that the emergence of a club like Real Madrid, which has emerged with such determination on the market has generated confusion in some clubs. They think that Real Madrid is a bottomless pit but not true," he said.

According to sports daily Marca, Real "has activated a plan B" and is negotiating the possible transfer of Italian international Daniele De Rossi from AS Roma for a maximum of 30 million euros.

That's what I wanted from Madrid to do , wait when his contract is over . Now Bayern will call back to negociate a deal for half price . Till then they will keep Ribéry on the bench and pay him 8 million euros for that . Too bad for such great club who didnt know how to keep their players .

hollyice, the only problem with waiting is that could give Barca a chance to get in before Real. I don't think Ribery would be fussed about which of the Spanish Giants he went to. Imagine Barca with Messi on the right and ScarFace on the left...

Not a good time to be a fullback LMFAO

now a days player don't respect with the contract they have sign, just they get better offer immediately they want to terminate their contract and move to other club, i think FIFA should do something with this isue, if not player can do as they like, without respest to club, this kind of player had no pride, can be bought with sum of MONEY !!

I would be very surprised if De Rossi leaves to Madrid. Like Totti, he has sworn allegiance to Roma.

Good! Because Ribery is not worth that price tag and with Vannistelroy still on the squad he is a far better player/scorer.

Archavabill wants to believe that players do not play to the end of their contracts because of the better deals they get somewhere else , he ignores that mostly players honour their contracts except if they get a call to Madrid then it's a different thing , you have to go .

ITS , bringing Ribéry was never the idea of Perez but Zidane asked him to join , Benzema also .Barça wont try to get Ribéry just because he said Real or nothing .

I am really disappointed about Bayern , a club that I respected a lot , they are right if they dont want to sell but big clubs like Madrid , Milan , Barça dont give a chance to a player to be the boss and sell him straight if he wishes to . You have to respect fans who come to see the club , if someone wants "divorce" he should get it , but Bayern are acting like Newty's brothers now .

hollyice, don't fool yourself that Ribery would only join Real. He would easily join Barca if the chance came.

I agree though about clubs letting a player go if they want to. But only if they get offered the proper valuation of the player. Just like Valencia with Villa, Bayern have every right to hold onto the player if they're not getting the proper money. Like you said, we have to be fair and don't want to behave like newty and his brothers.

The question is how much exactly has Bayern invested on Ribery? They stand to make a lot of profit given what they were offered for the player. Real has dropped its interest and Barca may go in the same direction if they manage to sign D avid Vila. So who is the looser? Ribery does not want to go play in England so there is no question of some Sheik's money going in the direction of Bayern on account of Ribery.

ITS , Barca tried to get Ribéry according to Spanish media but with €45 m plus some player , United , Chelsea and Madrid were among the clubs interested about him . His value at 26 cant be €80 m , I woud say €50 m is ok . The last news I heard say that Bayern want €70m from Madrid , I guess after few training sessions and they get fed up with Ribéry he will be sold than for €50m .

Bayern have some projects and need those €80 m , it's a party of poker what they are playing now , they can lose their "prestige" with this case or win and stand the battle against Madrid . Heads will fall down and resignations are expected at Allianz Arena , they can be blamed if Ribéry goes more cheaper in christmas or in a free transfer fee . Personally if some player wants to leave I want him to go , it's really disgusting when a player puts a club of hundreds of thousands of people down . Robinho and Etoo did the same , spend 3 years with Madrid and sold straight after they showed their desire to leave , I am expecting every club to do the same and not please a player to stay .

My wish now is that Perez does not pay the price Bayern are asking for , better let their group in a bad mood every week , they will lose more players not only Ribéry .

hollyice, Bayern won't lose their prestige. I'm sure they know exactly what they're doing. You can't expect clubs to just accept whatever bid a team throw in for their star player, especially when 'their' valuation is a lot higher than what's being offered. A players peak years are just about the age of Ribery now, so Bayern have priced him accordingly. Real were prepared to pay £80M for Pretty Boy and although I understand he's much more marketable than ScarFace, I don't think there would be much of a difference in terms of contribution ON the park.

The rules don't change for 'Real' hollyice. If you want the cream then pay for it.

I hope debt ridden Real Madrid buy him in the end. It will teach them a lesson, that buying up all of Europe's top players, doesn't guarantee any kind of success.

ITS , ManU and Lyon also didnt want to sell and they could say easilly we want €150 m for them , but as a club starting a new season with new challenges it wont help to keep a player against his will and keep him on the bench with losing money and the mood isn't really good enough to play for his mates .

As much I dont like Barcelona as rivals but I have to say Guardiola did a good job for the rest of the team by kicking out the "trouble" boys so cheap as Ronaldinho sold under € 20m to Milan , Deco also and he almost sold Eto'o too . Ribéry will be a big problem at Allianz Arena that's why I believe he will leave Munich cheaper or some bosses in their club will resign as a result of this case .

Phughes , dont worry about Madrid mate , I told you already we got a list of 10 players to sell and according to some friends from Bernabéu staff they cost at least €150 m , so till now we spend only a bit more than €50m. The problem is your club , we payed to them 15 % of their debts still they are in troubles .

hollyice, United didn't want to sell because they'll only have overrated players like Rooney who think they can fill the gap left by Ronaldo by scoring 40odd goals in 1 season... LMFAO. But it's not the same case with Lyon. Everyone knows they're a selling club, and it's just about getting the proper money for their top talents. Bayern don't have any MASSIVE debts like United(who have to pay their pimp) so there's no real pressure on them to sell if they don't think they're getting a fair price.

Newty can tell us more about his club's projects about Ribéry , but I think he is not a ManU fan anymore and strange how he reads our posts and agrees with everything we say ;)

As I stated a couple of weeks ago, my time on here during the next few weeks would be limited as I have a lot to do before I go on my make believe holidays (how’s the big telly Italk, are you still polishing your prize possession?). Low and behold I come on to have a mooch for the first time in over a week and Mr and Mrs Muppet still can’t get me out of their heads.

Holly my job was done on here in early June when you revealed yourself to be a coward, there’s not much left of interest on here for me to deal with anymore as I don’t mix with cowards!. I like the way you have so called “steam cleaned” this site. Just you and Kermit to argue between yourselves now eh!

Ps, enjoy Benzema and send him my Salaam’s, I’m sure the brother will do well! Maybe he can roll about on his prayer mat and pray for success next season eh?

Newty , the problem is that you dont know anything about football , and you have no respect for those you called "friends" here . Other thing is that if you think I said about Benzema I dont like him much because he is considered as a brother to you , give me a break . I play against your brothers many times in a month (and we batter them each time ;D) If you think your brothers have done good for the beautifull game please tell me someones , except that one who won Champions league with FC PORTO in 80's , I think he was Zidane's brother too .

It seems someone can't get the BIG TV out their head. Obviously not happy with the imaginary 15 they've got scattered around their "Mansion" in different rooms...

hollyice, the reason some people disappear from here is not because they're busy or going on some sort of holiday for 10 weeks. It's because they don't really care about the greatest game on earth. They only come out 'during' the football season when it's highly likely their team will be winning(Unless they're getting spanked like in the Final of the Champions League by a superior La Liga team, where "United just didn't turn up")...as they only started supporting them for that reason. Clowns like that don't have the game running through their veins 24/7 like you and I.

Don't expect miracles from these clowns hollyice.

Well ITS , very strange newty and his mates were very active last year the same period in soccerway , but it's true that the subject dominating was ManU and EPL her and they had somethng to say . Newty kicked many people from here who disappeared after he bullied them , I checked the archives of this website and found how he was joking about some smaller teams , I hope he feels the same when fans of bigger teams bully at his team .

newtonheath1878

13 July 2009 14:14

Again I have to repeat myself to the coward, I’ve not been on here much because I’ve been busy not because I’ve been bullied (just remember who made the threats and tried to bully and then shit themselves) by fans of bigger teams, I will tell you again Holly I have forgotten more about football than you will ever know. I live, sleep and eat football, just because I have completed making you look like a fool, a bigot, a clown and a coward over the past 8 months or so and currently have more important things to do with my time than argue with a Mr. Mong and Mr. Angry it doesn’t mean I have shied away it just means exactly that, I have had more pressing things to deal with! United are the biggest football club in the world whether you like it all not, we don’t need high profile players (regardless if they want to play for us or not Kermit) to be a BIG club or have the apparent bragging rights to how many trophies we have won. I was watching the Ronaldo unveiling last week; excuse my language but “fuck me” there in the Bernabeu crowd were spectators with United Shirts with Ronaldo on the back! I think that says it all when the player is bigger than the club he plays for. No player is or ever will be bigger than United, which is one of the reason why we are classed as one of the top ten sports brands in the world (Madrid are 14th by the way). I can go anywhere in the world and when asked where I’m from the first words I here to my response are “Manchester United” and “Bobby Charlton”. No other club worldwide generates the interest and admiration and objections that United do, we make stars and we don’t have to buy them to raise our profile.

The pair of you goes on about glory hunting and yes all big clubs from each country have that type of following attached to them, Celtic from Scotland, Madrid from Spain, Milan from Italy, Munich from Germany etc it is part and parcel but no one capitulates a worldwide audience as well as we do. You see I would take your comments on board and a little more seriously about “football running through your veins” but how can I? Kermit you don’t even go and support your own club and I beg to differ that you go to support Madrid on a regular basis either Miss Piggy. I’ve been a regular at Old Trafford since the 70’s, yep, since before the pair of you was born, watching my team come second fiddle to all but still being part of the biggest attendances in English football so don’t even go there with your crap about glory hunting as you haven’t got a clue, start going to the game then your comments may warrant a little respect. Being a regular at my club warrants more respect than being a regular on Soccerway! So think about it before labelling people clowns especially when you can’t be arsed getting off your backside to support your own team. Pathetic really when you think about it!

Italk, just because my life seems a million miles from yours doesn’t mean people don’t live it. I’ve told you time and time again and I apologise if it has come across as arrogant in the past (in fact, I don’t apologise if you perceive it as arrogant, hard shit, what I portray about myself is fact, you say you deal with facts Italk so deal with it) but I have gotten off my arse and done something with my life and with that come the rewards, try it out and you will see there is more to life than a 50 inch TV and winning a few bob on a dead cert.

Just remember, win lose or draw, even if we ended up in the lower tiers of English football we would still fill our ground because we support our club whatever is going on in the background or what string of results the team produces. United, Kids, Wife in that order. If you don’t understand that then it is you two who know nothing about football!

And one final word to Miss. Piggy, to be bullied one has to feel intimidated. Let’s just say we sorted that issue out last month didn’t we! Cocorocó!
