Bordeaux´s Gabriel Obertan vies during the UEFA Cup round of 32 match RSCA Anderlecht vs Girondins de Bordeaux, in Anderlecht, 2008. Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has snapped up Bordeaux talent Gabriel Obertan on a four-year contract, the club has said.

MANCHESTER, England (AFP) - Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has snapped up Bordeaux talent Gabriel Obertan on a four-year contract, the club said Wednesday.

Obertan, 20, who can play in several attacking positions, is United's third signing of the summer and had been tracked by Ferguson for some time.

"Gabriel is a player we have tracked for a few years now, but because of his educational programme our efforts to get him here have always been delayed," Ferguson told the club's website.

"We are delighted to get him now as he is an exciting prospect. We like to get young players and develop them, and we will see that in Gabriel over the next two years."

"I am very happy to join Manchester United," Paris-born Obertan said.

"This is a big opportunity for me to play at such a great club. I am very excited to be here and I look forward to proving what I can do."

Obertan made his debut for Bordeaux in 2006 and made sporadic appearances last season as the southwestern side won the league title, while he also spent part of the campaign on loan at Lorient.

I sincerely "hope" that Alex Furgeson's losing streak holds for the 2009/10 season because NOBODY can be that lucky FOREVER!

You don't win trophies by being lucky, there has to be some kind of quality involved. Sir Alex is shrewd and will not waste money like Real Madrid. Buying Obertan is an insurance for the future. He may turn out not to be a great player, but if he trains hard and improves his skills at Old Trafford, the sky is the limit for this young boy.

Paul . . . And if the other two young Italian players pan out, watch out! That's the best way to go. Real Madrid, however, is not in the same situation of MU. Real need good players now (and getting them) to fend off an already strong Barca.
