Mark Hughes given his pocket-money for January

Dave Cohen - 1 January 2009 04:29

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes

Manchester City’s manager Mark Hughes has received a whopping one hundred million pounds with which to purchase players during the January transfer window.

The Abu Dhabi United Group are giving the beleaguered manager their full backing and are hoping that Hughes can lure some top quality players to the club in an effort to move away from the relegation zone.

Currently City are just two points from the dreaded “drop zone”.

It is rumoured that top of his shopping spree is his former striker Roque Santa Cruz who has stated that he is keen to move away from Blackburn Rovers to his former coach’s Manchester City.

Others linked to a moved to Eastlands are Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Kolo Toure (Arsenal), Craig Bellamy (West Ham United) and Shay Given (Newcastle United).

Hughes may find it difficult to lure top-class players considering their lowly position in the English Premier League.

City may have loads of £££££, but don't expect to see Kaka,Pirlo,Ronaldinho,Messi,Ronaldo,Etoo,Xavi or ANY OTHER player of such ilk to sign for this little club.Top players who have real ambition to win titles/European Cups, simply won't join such a club. All they can do is find a few more football mercanaries like Robinho.

Cousin Mark is a shrewd guy and won't waste his money, I'm sure.

Sometimes buying too much world class player might ruin the club...

The same comments as made by Italksense could also have been made about Chelsea when Abramovich first started to pump money in.

Money talks, but the team must be challenging for the title before players who have hardly heard the name find they have a lifetime dream to play for the club
