PARIS (AFP) - Bordeaux swatted holders Paris Saint Germain 3-0 on Wednesday to reach the final of the French League Cup, where they will meet second division upstarts Vannes, who stunned top flight Nice.
PSG were looking to show their 4-0 hiding at Bordeaux three weeks ago was an aberration but they were soon shadows again as the visitors took a 17th-minute lead at the Parc des Princes, ex-Manchester United man David Bellion dispatching a firm header from Franck Jurietti's pinpoint high cross.
Laurent Blanc's Girondins were hoping history would repeat itself having scored a 1-0 win at the same venue and the same stage in 2002.
Bellion's effort set them on their way and a lob and a Souleymane Diawara lob four minutes from time and Brazilian Wendel's neat clincher in the closing seconds saw Blanc's side advance deservedly.
Diawara marshalled the Bordeaux defence magnificently - and escaped sanction for an accidental handball in the area - to ensure PSG were shut out at the other end.
Bordeaux will now be huge favourites to lift the trophy on April 25 at the Stade de France.
Blanc said afterwards: "We were very conscious tonight that one team was going to qualify for the final and play at the Stade de France. I'm delighted we were able to do what was necessary to go though even though it was difficult.
"The score in no way reflected how tough it was."
In-form Yann Gourcuff, who has been inspiration in Bordeaux's midfield this season on loan from AC Milan to drive the side to within a point of leaders and serial champions Lyon, drove an early freekick just off target as the southwesterners sought to impose their grip from the outset.
PSG's young hope Guillaume Hoarau and Serbian international Mateja Kezman, just one league goal this season since signing from Fenerbahce, laboured in vain, Kezman seeing Matthieu Valverde saving a point blank first-half effort.
Earlier, Vannes, playing in the competition for the first time in their history, shocked Nice 4-3 on penalties after the match finished 1-1 at Nice's Stade Principal du Ray.
On-loan Valenciennes striker Seid Khiter put Vannes in front on the hour mark but substitute Chaouki Ben Saada levelled with only two minutes of normal time remaining.
Extra-time brought no further goals and Vannes goalkeeper Christophe Revel emerged as the hero in the shootout, with Vannes becoming only the second second-tier team after Gueugnon in 2002 to make the final.
"I can't take it in - I never saw anything like it," said Vannes coach Stephane Le Mignan. "Our first year as a professional outfit and we book a ticket for Stade de France!
"This is just surreal. Who would have put a cent on us?" quipped midfielder Nicolas Savinaud.
