Sao Paulo suffered a painful 1-0 defeat by Atletico Paranaense in the Brazilian Serie A, while Goias beat Santos 2-1 to move into second place.
After Palmeiras' victory over Internacional on Saturday, Sao Paulo needed a win to remain at one point from the leaders. Things didn't go as planned though as Sao Paulo failed to break the deadlock in Curitiba. Instead, the hosts netted a winner through Paulo Baier in the 86th minute.
Goias did better against Santos, scoring the opener through Vitor after 19 minutes. Kleber Pereira equalised ten minutes later but Felipe netted the home side's winner five minutes after the interval.
As such, Goias climb to second place at just two points from Palmeiras, while Sao Paulo drop to third at four points from the leaders.
Season revelations Avai continued to impress, beating Flamengo 3-0 with goals from Luis Ricardo, Leo Gago and Fabinho Capixaba.
