Palmeiras beat Internacional 2-1

Palmeiras successfully defended their Brazilian Serie A lead on Saturday, beating fourth-placed Internacional 2-1.

The Sao Paulo-based outfit opened the score after 39 minutes of play, with Obina beating keeper Lauro from the penalty spot.

Paraguayan Jose Ortigoza, one of just four players in the line-ups of the two teams, added a second shortly after the interval.

International pulled one back through Giuliano in the 87th minute, but it was too little, too late.

Sao Paulo, who visit Atletico Paranaense on Sunday, now face the task of restoring the original one-point gap with their local rivals.
