Juventus beat Real to reach Peace Cup final

Real Madrid´s Cristiano Ronaldo (left) vies with Juventus´s Tiago Mendes during a semi-final of the Peace Cup Andalucia match at Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Sevilla. Juventus beat Real Madrid 2-1 to reach the final of the Peace Cup as the big-spending Spanish club failed to shine in its first major pre-season test.

SEVILLE, Spain (AFP) - Juventus beat Real Madrid 2-1 Friday to reach the final of the Peace Cup as the big-spending Spanish club failed to shine in its first major pre-season test.

The Italians will meet Aston Villa on Sunday after the English Premier League side beat Porto of Portugal by the same score in Malaga.

Juventus got off to a flying start in the match in Seville when Fabio Cannavaro connected with a free kick from Alessandro del Piero to head the ball past Jerzy Dudek in the third minute.

Real leveled the score when the world's most expensive footballer Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second goal -- and second penalty -- in a Real shirt.

The 23-year-old Portuguese star - who cost Real around 94 million euros when he joined from Manchester United -- slotted the ball past Gianluigi Buffon in the 41st minute after Giorgio Chiellini brought down Raul.

Bosnian midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic restored the advantage for the Italians in the 49th minute with a glancing header from a corner by Alessandro Del Piero.

The match was Real's first real pre-season test after matches against Ireland's Shamrock Rovers, Saudi side Al Ittihad and Ecuador's La Liga de Quito.

But three of the club's big new signings -- Kaka, Raul Albiol and Alvaro Arbeloa -- and Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos were not selected,

All had been allowed to extend their holidays after taking part in the Confederations Cup in South Africa in June.

But Real coach Manuel Pellegrini was able to count on French signing Karim Benzema, who had recovered from a knock picked up in the match against La Liga de Quito.

The former Lyon striker, who joined Real for 35 million euros (50 million dollars) earlier this month, was substituted in the 72nd minute by Argentine Gonzalo Higuain.

Twelve clubs took part in the prestigious pre-season Peace Cup tournament.

The tournament began life in 2003 and FIFA recognised it as an international event in 2007.

This year is the first time it has been held outside of South Korea.

It was a nice football game and good moments to share with friends at the bar even it was only a friendly one . As I said here to Alboi Juventus have more chances to win against Madrid without including their new players to face a team which are not used to play together . I knew they will play their defensive style when they decided to rest Diego and leave pace for Giovenco to show his skills . Guti again showed that his days in Madrid are counted now , and also Drenthe who was dead in the second period but did better in the first one , maybe many will disagree with me I find him using too much energy without giving any fruits at the end , he uses well his both legs but failed in the finish everytime .Difficult to find the starting 11 but I hope Benzema wont be among them , as I said longtime ago I dont like his poor shootings but he is only 21 , I hope he will progress . I wonder if Pellegrini trained them for the dead balls where we conceded both goals from a free kick and a corner , funny how short players can take the balls from tall guys but I guess Pellegrini knows he has a lot to do in the defense when getting Arbeloa and Albiol back ,still 1 month to make some changes and fix them together .

i don't think there is any need to train these folks on deadball or set-pieces. I really have my dobts anout the coach himself. I still consider his achievement with Villareal with some reservations - less convincing to me. I need to have the rest of the team in play to make a critical assessment of Marid's chances.

The defence is a factor. but you can hardly assess this well enogh in the absence of a strong and coordinated midfield. Kaka is missing and we need to see the new Zidane and Makelele combination once more in the play. So Mr Pellegrini needs to study the old Galaticos and come up with a better idea on how to manage this team.

Things will change when Albiol ,Arbeloa start playing . Our right and left backs and the whole defence failed last year under Schuster , Ramos and now with Pellegrini . I believe things will change with Kaka and the new center and right backs . Adding to that most teams play more carefully against Madrid . Juventus wont play the same style against Aston Villa (shorthanded with Heskey red carded) , they wont be grouping like yesterday which will make it easy probably for Villa .

It's nice to see the big spenders getting their arses kicked. It just goes to show that money can't buy success. Friendly or no friendly, Real Madrid wanted to be in the final. The big fact is, they were not good enough, full stop. No excuses, they got beat....lol

Paul, I know who the intended recipient of your comment is, still give Real Madrid a bit more time. They have made so many changes. It’s natural to show a bit of indecisiveness and confusion on the pitch. In a month or so they should be fine. If not, they will have learnt the lesson the hard way.

You seem to be able to read my mind. A very interesting skill indeed...lol

Pooh-gs I know you are new to football , at a certain age it's not easy to learn about it . You said the other day it's stupid to comment a game which you didn't see but here you go again. What Madrid did is what any club in the world who have that much money to spend will do . But what the other ones cannot do is to get those players even with their money , I mean mostly English clubs especially who were so desperate this summer , don't mistaken yourself and say like Fergie ManU dont want to spend that crazy money , the problem go and get them .

Pellegrini has the biggest challenge than any other coach , if you take Mourinho for example he started well with Inter because he had to work with a group who played many years together , in Madrid it's different , it's putting 8 players to play together against other ones who wish to beat the greatest team in the world , and that's something you can fix in 1 day .

With Arbeloa , Albiol and Kaka things will change and it's a question of time . We have killed ManU and I understand your reaction , but try to be with Liverpool you will be fine ;) When Thai people ask you where are you from tell me them England , not Britain ;) and if they tell you Manchester United , tell them NO Liverpool this year ;) I know you are the kind who wont feel ashamed about it , just like many here ;)

Well Cannavaro had his revenge yesterday. Hollyice, I didn't see the game yesterday because I had to work overtime but from Juventus' past games, Diego has been amazing. He is like a stronger and more reliable Giovinco. With him Juventus is stronger, not weaker. It's like saying that Madrid is weaker with Ronaldo or Kaka on the field because they are new players.

I wonder where Oasisthunder is? When ManU loses a game to penalty shootouts he rants that luck has run out and ManU will lose everything this year. What are we supposed to say when Real Madrid loses? If I were like Oasisthunder, I would be stupid and say that Real Madrid will suck this year. But I understand that this is just a friendly game and the beginning of everything. You can't make predictions now.

Alboi said " He is like a stronger and more reliable Giovinco. With him Juventus is stronger, not weaker. It's like saying that Madrid is weaker with Ronaldo or Kaka on the field because they are new players."

I didnt say with Diego Juve will be weaker , it was an answer to you when you said hands down because Diego is not playing and then I told you there are more possibilities to win without a new player than with him . Normal , go now and grab the best ones in the world and try to put them together , you will need time to succeed . Madrid played offensive game when Juventus defended well , they were grouping to defend the result in other words they wanted to win the game more than preparing their team but it's not the case with Real , a new coach with new players needed some big test , and Juventus was a good one .

I didnt bet on this game my money but I was not waiting Madrid to win . If I saw that Juve had many new players like us than I will say we will batter them , but it will happen after tehy will play more together . What Barca did when they battered everyone last year , Madrid will do the same but it's a question of time ;) .

What a game !! And what a disappointment must it be for Real , who after spending an astonishing estimate of around 200 mil , still in my opinion stay at the same level as they were before they have gone shopping. I laughed my head off , seeing Ronaldos free kicks . No offense to Real supporters: when football players come to MU , they become stars , and when they go off to Real , hey do not get anything out off it.

The reason that Real lost is that they need to work on their defence because getting alot of offencive players will cause their defencive midfield to be very vulnurable.

hey all, i don't know what game you've seen, but Juventus did very well and won the game rightly (though without shining), first off considering that they couldn't line up some of their usual starters like Sissoko, Diego, Marchisio to name a few, who play an important part in the teams stability (so the fact that Real lost because of not lining up Albiol, Arbeloa, Kaka etc is irrelevant here) and secondly considering that - i don't know what conspiracy Perez and the referrees are in - the refs always favor Real. Granero was one of the better Real players on the pitch (both against LDQ and Juve), but could have been sent off against Juve, and Diarra is just a bone breaker. Another thumb up for Juve showing great fairplay, unlike Ronaldo (though he's a goog player) who is persuaded to be most handsome boy on earth and can't stand losing. To be honest I'm pretty sure tha Barca will once again win La Liga, because they player more attractive football and they're solid as a rock. Sure Real still have time to improve, time will tell! And by the way, english and spanish supremacy will only hold another 2-3 years!!!

Be well brobros

oasis , failed to impress ??? 16 goals in 4 games. Yeah , right. You need to think , before you write something . And what team do u support ? Im curious , how bad must they be , that you are so jealous of MU's success

Fitnessboy , it's you who have seen a different game boy ;) Grygera should be sent off in a real game when he tackled Ronaldo if you didn't see the game you can watch it here .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aavfGthB6S0 Go and look at 0:44 seconds and come back to tell me this is football ;)

hollyice

2 August 2009 14:17

No , I didn't wait this answer fitnessboy . I waited that you say : True , Grygera could have been sent off . Did you watch the video at 0:44 ? Clear , he wanted to break his leg and not play football . I thought it was a friendly game .

Tontodonati

2 August 2009 15:08

Fitnessboy and Hollyice, I saw the clip on You tube. I must say Grygera's tackle on Ronaldo was bad. But it didn’t seem to be intentional. If you look at it carefully, you’ll see that Grygera went for the ball and barely missed it. The momentum carried his foot on to Ronaldo’s leg. Nevertheless, Grygera could have been ejected but it was not intentional.

fitnessboy,

In case you didn't know, Marchisio no longer plays with Juventus. He was given away to Fiorentina as part of the Melo deal. I think they got Melo for 18 mill + Marchisio from La Viola, if I'm not mistaken.

fitnessboy

2 August 2009 18:47

well, listen hollyice, don't get me wrong as I'm not here to mess around, Grygera's foul was indeed really bad (though not fully intentional as the video states) and he should have been sent off for sure, but this doesn't justify the handful of fouls Drenthe and above all the xx fouls Diarra committed without being cautionned.

alboi, actually you must be mistaking marchisio and marchionni. marchionni signed for fiorentina and as of what i know wasn't involved in the melo deal. ;-)

hope you guys will watch today's games and have a good time!
