Martin Palermo scored the opening goal versus River Plate

Argentinian arch rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate held each other to a 1-1 draw in Sunday's Super Clasico.

Always a trigger for great passion in Argentinian football, the two met at Boca's Bombonera stadium and both sides were set to give it their all in an attempt to overpower their nemesis.

No goals were scored in the first half but former Villarreal player Martin Palermo struck from outside the penalty area to hand Boca a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.

River did not give up though and Marcelo Gallardo equalised from a free kick just ten minutes later.

After ten matches in the Argentinian Primera Division, River Plate are in fifth place while Boca are to be found in 12th. Velez Sarsfield lead, ahead of Colon de Santa Fe.
