MADRID (AFP) - Chelsea have offered Real Madrid 70 million euros (108 million dollars) for their defender Sergio Ramos, daily newspaper El Mundo reported Wednesday.
Real, who clinched their second straight Spanish league title over the weekend, was "reflecting on the offer" for the 21-year-old Spanish international who is under contract with the club until 2013, the newspaper said without citing named sources.
If the offer is accepted, the former Sevilla defender would become "the most expensive defender in history", it said.
"His transfer would not only be the solution to the problems of the club's accounts but it would also open the door to the recuitment of a megacrack," the newspaper said.
The report emerges after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was in Madrid earlier this week for a basketball tournament.
Ramos has also sparked interest from Italian side AC Milan, according to Spanish media reports.

Seventy million for Ramos ? Have Chelsea gone totally mad ????nelsonm2110 May 7th, 2008 15:00
I agree, have Chelsea completely lost the plot???30 million on Shevchenko did wonders for the side, what do they think spending 70 million on one player will achieve? You could spend that money instead on 7 players each worth 10 million and be all the better for it. What if he gets a long-term injury and becomes a flop? Abramovich is throwing his money away.

With the petrol prices reaching history highs almost every other day Abramovich will buy the whole Real Madrid before too long.
