MIDDLESBROUGH, May 11 (SW) - Middlesbrough close their Premiership season with an impressive 8-1 victory over a helpless Manchester City.
Brazilian Afonso Alves scored three goals for 'Boro, while Downing took care of two, of which one from eleven meters.
The remaining three goals came from Johnson, Rochemback and Aliadière, in that order.
Manchester City, who lost Dunne due to a red card after only sixteen minutes, hardly restored their pride with a goal from Elano in the 87th minute.
