Russia coach Guus Hiddink has ended months of speculation surrounding his future by signing a new two-and-a-half year deal with the Russian Football Union (RFS), tying him to his current role until after the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The 61-year-old Dutchman's existing contract had been due to end following EURO 2008 but he will now stay to try and guide Russia to another major finals after penning a new deal. RFS president Vitali Mutko had said Hiddink would extend his stay last October, before what proved a decisive 2-1 victory against England as Russia claimed a place in this summer's final, but it has taken until now to finalise terms.
