Gabriel Stan has been appointed as coach of FCM UTA Arad after Marin Barbu was sacked after just six months at the helm. Barbu became the Romanian Liga 1's second coaching casualty of the season after claiming just two wins in 13 games since his October appointment.

Groin surgery sidelines Given
Newcastle United FC will be without goalkeeper Shay Given for six weeks after the Republic of Ireland international underwent surgery on a persistent groin injury in Germany this morning.
The 31-year-old was sidelined by a similar problem earlier this season and has not played since the 5-1 defeat by Manchester United FC at St James' Park on 23 February.
